Data Management for Healthcare's Big Data
Traditional approaches to data management require that you know a lot about your data before you place it into discrete and inflexible schemas. This makes acquiring and leveraging new data a slow and expensive process.
Explorys has taken a different approach. We pioneered the use of big data technology in healthcare, like Hadoop, to ingest data into a flexible "Data Lake" model rather than the rigid traditional approach.
Our Data Lake is a staging and storage repository that holds a vast amount of raw data in its native format until it is needed. Each data element is assigned a unique identifier and tagged with a set of metadata tags. When a clinical or business question arises, the Explorys Data Lake can be queried for relevant data that can be later added to combined data sets.
An Open Approach to Managing Your Data
Recognizing the need for flexibility, Explorys took an open approach to managing data through editable configuration files. Explorys xDL is a simple XML-based scripting language for configuring and programming our data management engines using any off-the-shelf text editor.
Full Spectrum Clinical Integration
The typical high-risk patient visits many care settings, including ambulatory, acute, long term care, rehabilitation, home, and specialty care. Explorys applies a broad approach to data collection within these venues while supporting a wide range of data sources.
Already deployed and operational at many of the largest healthcare systems in the United States, the Explorys solution combines enterprise security standards with comprehensive data collection and encryption of medical records. All major data sources are supported including electronic medical record systems, practice management systems, billing, lab, scheduling, and claims sources.
The Health Data Gateway (HDG)
The Explorys HDG enables healthcare IT professionals to identify data scattered across the enterprise and use tools to map, collect, link, standardize, and add it to the their organization's repositories and data marts.
The Governance Engine
The Explorys Governance Engine provides rules-based access to data based upon policies and conditions such as organizational role, patient attribution, and contract rights between entities. By acting as a trusted broker for these models, Explorys negates the need for providers, affiliates, and payers to manually curate, obfuscate, and send sensitive data to each other. This enables patient data to be made available in appropriate ways consistent with agreed upon business rules and regulatory policies. It also enables the rapid formation of relationships between payers, providers, and plans as models grow and evolve.
The Attribution Engine
The Explorys Patient Attribution Engine provides comprehensive support for a myriad of attribution models at the panel, registry, and measure set levels. In addition to support for standard Primary Care Provider (PCP) and CMS four-cut method attribution, this engine also supports a wide array of customizable patient-to-provider, care team, or care coordinator attribution criteria including specialty, provider type, department, visit frequency, or visit order (i.e. first to see, last to see).
The Curation Engine
Data standardization is critical to the success of any population or performance management program, particularly when operating in diverse environments. Having already processed, mapped, and classified hundreds of billions of clinical, operational, and financial data elements across our customer deployments, the Explorys Data Curation Engine provides the industry’s most robust and comprehensive platform for mapping clinical data into common standards and units of measure such as ICD, SNOMED, LOINC, and RxNorm. This engine also processes and unifies data from billing and claims systems in order to provide a unified view of the care continuum.
The Patient Matching Engine
Accurately matching patients to their health records is absolutely critical for effective population management, reporting, and analytics. When achieved with high levels of accuracy, patient matching facilitates the ability to aggregate data across multiple systems and sources.
The Explorys Patient Matching Engine matches patients from disparate systems into the Explorys DataGrid using proprietary algorithms. It can also be used in conjunction with an existing enterprise master patient index (EMPI) solution. This enables patients’ data to be consolidated and processed longitudinally to provide accurate measurement and intelligent care outreach.
The Calculation Engine
The Explorys Calculation Engine provides high-scale computing of measures, registries, attributions, and other imputed values on an on-going basis to ensure timely access to information. Already supporting over a thousand measures and registries today, the Calculation Engine is designed to meet the evolving needs of organizations that require timely access to computed data.
The Risk & Prediction Engine
The Explorys Risk & Prediction Engine provides support for risk-adjustment and grouping. Explorys metric risk adjustment helps level the playing field for the reporting of patient outcomes, adjusting for the differences in severity of illness among patients. The engine supports popular 3rd party risk adjustment inpatient and ambulatory models, such as 3M’s APR-DRG and EAPG, CMS-HCC, HHS-CCC, Framingham, and Lace readmission models.
The Analytics Engine
The Explorys Analytics Engine provides high-speed search, as well as analytics, reports, and consolidated views of data for use by senior leadership, providers, care coordinators, data scientists, business intelligence analysts, or IT teams. It applies capabilities from other engines to process this data either on a real-time or batch basis.
The Explorys SuperMart includes a set of pre-built tables and schemas designed to meet the demands of value-based-care and analytics. It is used to support existing BI tools and frameworks, as well as applications that can benefit from curated data contained within it.
Explorys provides a powerful suite of ready-to-use apps that can be used stand-alone or within existing workflows and EMRs.
The Explorys Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Suite is a set of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)-based Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) applications that enable rapid population management, measurement, and engagement. These applications were built to identify opportunities, measure performance, and engage providers, care coordinators, and patients where necessary.
Designed for off-the-shelf use, these applications are built to run on standard web browsers and utilize industry-standard user interfaces and security mechanisms within a healthcare compliant framework supporting self-service.
